Back in Science Week, I set the school a challenge to use the Science Star in their science lessons. I returned on Earth Day to talk about the formation of our planet and to present Science Stars to everyone and special Super Nova awards for outstanding work.
Here I am re-enacting the birth of the Solar System using a variety of large fruits and simulating the believed collision between the Earth and a planet scientists called Theia, which is thought to have resulted in the tilt of our planet and the formation of the Moon. Later that day, I visited a number of classes to talk about the features of our planet from the edge of the atmosphere to the Earth’s core.
The way that classes applied the Science Star to their work varied greatly due to their creativity. Here I am showing a painting that was done as part of an investigation into renewable energy. One class got to work straight away on their Science Star activity and sent me a PowerPoint display of some of their work within the week. Here it is.
