Last week’s curiosity was the fossilised tooth of a baby Woolly Mammoth. It is about 20,000 years old and was dredged up from the sea bed off the coast of Lowestoft in England.
This week, can you identify what this is a fossil of? Clue: I looked at a present-day example of this when I visited the Jurassic Garden in Whitby recently.

This website is dedicated to Ken Walker who was my first head of science back in 1971 who set me on a journey writing educational materials by asking me to make a booklet for 250 children visiting a zoo. He often reminded me of this but more importantly he was my mentor back in those days, letting me set up brand new science laboratories and run field courses at the schools outdoor pursuits centre and his advice stayed with me as I progressed in my teaching career and into my writing career too.
