Introduction
A major feature of this series is the “turn the page to find out” features which occur on several double page spreads in each book. Its aim is to help the children think about what they have read, carry their ideas forward as they turn the page and match up their thoughts with the facts that are revealed.
Other major features are the use of questions to test an understanding of the text, the details revealed by the pictures and the challenge to make investigations and practice thinking like a scientist. There is also a simple glossary called ‘Useful words’ to develop scientific vocabulary and a ‘Some answers’ to help reinforce learning. On the last page in each book there is an ‘About the book’ section which lists the five lines of Scientific Enquiry to help you spot them in the book and information on the scientific skills the children are developing as they work through the book.
