Editor’s roles in book production can go beyond the original checking text and compensating for the authors ‘inelegancy in style’ a phrase I remember someone saying to me when I started writing over thirty years ago.
Hayley also liaised with the designer and made sure my text fitted the allocated space, researched pictures I suggested, arranged photoshoots for the experiments and kept me ‘in loop’ with the production of every book so I could deliver text, review edited text, check pictures and make captions in time for the deadlines. I only mention this because when teachers and children ask me how books are ‘made’ they are quite surprised at all the work that goes on beside the writing.
Thanks again Hayley.
