This is the first blog of a new era for me.
I began writing posts for my blog ten years ago on my old website but writing more science books took over after a few years. Most of my original posts are here though in the Archive under various categories for easy reference.
The idea behind the posts is to interest everyone in science by looking for it around us. This is especially important for children as they grow up and live in our rapidly changing world where I believe science can make things better than some people think.
With this in mind the posts could be of interest to teachers but I also hope that parents, carers and grandparents will have a look too and help their children look at our world differently by switching on their “scientific eyes”. In strictly educational terms this means building up scientific literacy as featured in my quote on the website banner.
In time some of my posts here will join those in th Archive or in two new features of the website I am introducing this time.
- Science after School aims to help you engage with your children when they come home from school buzzing about a science lesson they have just had.
- A Patch on the Planet looking more closely at the plants and animals around you whether it is a window box, a tub on a balcony, the local park or a place in the countryside that you visit regularly. I will be blogging from time to time about a patch I regularly visit and you could and me pictures of your patch to see how wild life is doing across the world.
The next few blogs are scene setters about our world for you and your children. They are quite short and simple but may cover a lot of information .The idea behind them is for you to be able to read them in a short time, discuss them with your children or just think about them at any time of day.
