Following on from my previous post about the flora and fauna of Australia, a friend of mine in Australia has sent me some more pictures of the species to be seen there…
Common Brushtail Possum
(Trichosurus vulpecula vulpecular)

A nocturnal, semi-arboreal marsupial of the family Phalangeridae. The second largest of the possums after the Tasmanian subspecies. Copes very well with urban life and can be a pest to gardeners and farmers.
Location – A friend’s garden in our Suburb.
Western Australian Christmas Tree
(Nuysia floribunda)
A monotypic genus, occurring only naturally in Western Australia. The plant is at least partly a root parasite in that its roots attach themselves to the roots of other plants and gain part of their growth from the host species. It is reported that plants up to 150 metres away from N.floribunda may be parasitised. It flowers from the middle of November until around the end of December.
