Frequently Asked Questions About Checkpoint

When I meet teachers who are looking at the checkpoint books here are some of the questions I am asked followed by my answers using pages out of the books.

The books are written by a single author, so there is continuity throughout the student books, workbooks and Boost online resources.

Cambridge Checkpoint Lower Secondary Science Student’s Book 7: Third Edition

The books are based on the experience of the author in teaching students at this level for twenty-four years. This has led to a conversational style which increases student involvement with frequent questions and challenges.

The teacher’s guides are based on 17 years as Head of Science Department in a large multicultural high school, guiding teachers and lab technicians through science curriculum change in the UK, as well as supervising trainee science teachers on their teaching practice.

All the notes on the activities in the student books

and all the answers

In this latest edition, the author’s experience of many years of teaching practical work in the laboratory has led to the careful selection and placing of science enquiries to integrate with the chapter text in such a way that knowledge and understanding and practical science skills reinforce each other to enhance learning.

Each chapter ends with a summary which can be used for revision discussions in class and a series of end-of-chapter questions which increase in difficulty to test the student’s security of knowledge.

They extend the content of each chapter into exam paper format questions to give the students practice and to build up confidence in answering exam questions.
