There are activities and questions on almost every spread designed to make the reader interact with the text by using critical thing skills, planning investigations, gathering easily obtainable materials and equipment and carrying out scientific investigations. These may be illustrative to reinforce what has been read or to provide opportunities to develop observational skills. Where an activity is an example of one or more types of scientific enquiry it is referenced at the back of the book.
